Businesses within the same industry may utilize similar technologies.  The businesses that can apply technology to reduce costs, increase productivity, and differentiate their product from the competition will tend to succeed.  Technology is not always a cost effective solution for all business problems. Hiring personnel could be more cost effective.

Sometimes the application of new technology may not be utilized over the long run.  A business may spend several tens of thousands of dollars for a new utility that may appear to solve problems initially but may create complications with business processes.  When solutions are discussed and planned appropriately technology projects are more likely to succeed.
